  Pregnancy is a time of change in a woman’s life. With the prospect of becoming a parent, or adding to a family, the expectant mother also has to deal with hormonal changes, an altering body shape and a multitude of physical symptoms. Yoga for pregnancy can help alleviate some of these symptoms. This class is suitable for all levels, even those who have never done yoga before. A relaxed environment is provided where you can take time-out to enjoy the various stages of your pregnancy, while also learning yoga techniques and birth preparation information that enable you to feel more confident and empowered for childbirth.  The Yoga for Pregnancy class has a slightly different format to regular yoga classes. Normally the class starts with brief introductions where you have the option/opportunity to mention or discuss pregnancy related issues you may be dealing with.  This is also a good time to raise any questions you may have about childbirth, breastfeeding etc. After this we practice specific breathing techniques. The breath it is a vital tool in helping labouring mothers manage themselves and cope with the strong sensations of childbirth. Then we will move through various yoga poses that are suitable for practicing during pregnancy and can be helpful in childbirth.  The emphasis here is on tuning into the body while stretching and strengthening to stay limber for pregnancy and childbirth. The class ends with relaxation. Questions are welcome at any stage during the class. Every few months, as part of the ongoing Yoga for Pregnancy classes and birth preparation I will run a class that focuses on information specific to the birthing process and also how a exercise ball/birthing ball can be used during childbirth.
