Tuesday 21st July – Hips & Shoulders Class

The focus of this class is to stretch and strenghten the muscles that support the shoulders and the hips. For a lot of people, the modern day job requires long periods of time sitting at a desk which is detrimental to the shoulders and the hips causing repetitive strain in the shoulders, slumping and bad posture. The restriction of movement can gradually decrease and limit the body’s full range of movement leading to tight hips, stiff joints, back pain and again, bad posture. Also being a holding place for stress the shoulders will surely benefit from some extra care and attention. In turn, the hips can also be a place where tension is held, although we are not as aware of it, reffering mostly to it as tight hips. Limited mobility in the hips affects much of what we do and can increase the load on the spine. Even for people who are quite active or sporty, increasing the flexibility of the hips can help prevent injurys, such as knee injuries.
